I would like to fit some gas struts to the bonnet of my VL. Like the VR? series onwards (I think) Has anyone here done this? Can you tell me exactly what i need, and what it originally come off. Looking to get rid of the bonnet rod all together. Thanks

i used ones from the tail gate of a vl wagon because they were longer than the ones on the vr/vs bonnets. i got the mounts from vr/vs and the bolts with the nipples on the end from the vl wagon as well. didn't have to drill any holes at all. ________ XT600 (http://www.cyclechaos.com/wiki/Yamaha_XT600)

VL1986, got any pics of that? How well does it hold up the bonnet? Spose the tailgate on a wagon is heavier than the bonnet! How come no holes were drilled? Where did the struts mount to? Thanks

i took out one bolt on each side of the bonnet hinge and replaced it with the nipple bolt from the wagon (make sure you use these ones because the bolts from the vr/vs are shorter) and took out about the 3rd or 4th bolt out of the guard and put the vr/vs mount in there. seems to hold the bonnet up well. just make sure the struts are ok before you buy them and you put them on with the black bit at the bottom not like in the pic. i paid $20 for mine. i have a pic but i need some one to post it for me. hope this helps ________ VFR800 (http://www.cyclechaos.com/wiki/Honda_VFR800)

As someone mentioned above you can buy aftermarket struts made by Monroe and another company and they are availble from Bursons or Repco. But second hand ones might work out cheaper. 8)
