My VL doesn't keep the high beams on when i pull the indicatior lever back. They still work, but only if i hold the lever my self. Anyone know how to fix the switch?

na man i dont think u've blown a fuse.. if the fuse was gone.. H/B woulnt work  ?? anyway.. its more like the indicator stalk is ***ed.. inside it there is a little metal plate that makes up part of the pull back and lock bit of the h/b switch.. it has these 2 little pin like things that hold it on.. but they wear out, causing the internals of ur indicator stalk to fall out hehe :P u watch it will eventually get worse and then u'll be driving along and pieces will fall onto ur legs and stuff.. anyway.. buy a new one from holden or a wreckers, remove steering wheel and i think the 2 plastic pieces around the steering column, undo the 2 wiring connectors, remove the 3 screws holding the orange plastic piece in place, fit the new one, and assembly is a reversal of the removal procedure.. hehe i read that in a book somewhere ! new stalk should cost about 25 -40 buks i think.. keep ur old one for any lil parts u might need. have fun.. gettin the steering wheel off is usually the best bit.. Yeah check the stalk, but as the first guy said, im pretty sure its the fuse. I also had the same prob, the high beam still works when u pull the lever back, but when you release it, HB turns off. This **** me for ages until i checked the fuse (simple, maybey too simple, thats why It took me so long to bother hehee) Trust me, its your fuse :P

if u pull the lever backward to put highbeam on and it doesn't click and hold itself on, id hardly call that a 'fuse' problem.. maybe a broken stalk go change ur fuse if u want.. but i'll put 400 buks and the tip of my **** on the line here that u have a broken indicator stalk. u'll be right mate. goodluck. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Even though i'm not putting any money on my **** I'd definatly say the stalk has just had a tiny little plastic/spring thing broken Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

u probably shouldnt use a hammer hey, could damage the steering column. its best to either.. loosen off the nut to the end of the thread (but dont take it of completely) then jsut reef and reef at the wheel, using ur legs too against the firewall. i got my bros one off like this or go to supercheap or an auto store and get a steerig wheel puller.. probably the best idea Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Exchaser dude, I was going off what the guy said in his original post, it was .." My VL doesn't keep the high beams on when i pull the indicator lever back. They still work, but only if i hold the lever my self. Anyone know how to fix the switch?" The problem he described with having to hold the stalk back to keep the high beams on is the same problem I had when the fuse for High beam went. HB stayed on while u pulled the stalk back, but after you release it, HB would turn off and youd have no headlights till u pulled it again to go back to normal beam. That problem is because of the fuse man, trust me. Try it, take your HB fuse out, jump in, try to put HB on, and I bet a million bucks and the tip of my **** it stays on while u hold it, and goes off when you release the stalk. :P Anyway, catch yas Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

man i'm over it. he already said his stalk will probably hit the floor soon.. so its clearly broken. it could be either of the suggested problems (fuse/broken stalk).. and i'm not saying ur wrong at all.. but in this case there is more evidence to show that its a broken stalk rather than a blown fuse. cheers man.. catch ya later !

I had the exact same problem and it was the stalk. Exchaser is probably right about the problem. I got a new one and put it in and now it works fine Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

haha man its not hard at all ey *take the steering wheel off first, make sure u mark the steering column and wheel to aid in correct aligning with the front wheels upon reassembly. *take plastic off around steering column and undo electrical connectors, there are 2. *undo 3 screws, take off old one, put new one on, do up screws, connect electrical connections, put plastic back around, lign the wheel up and press it on, do up the nut and locknut. (u can use a wheel brace to get the nut off and back on) crank some tunes while u do it man.. adds to the fun. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
