How hard is it to respray a VL, if the right equipment is at hand. Or is it better to just pay to get it all done ??

Colour changes are a nightmare..I have done one, and never will again. Everything has to come off/out to do a proper job..doors, weatherstrips, engine compartment components... Never again! Regards, Andrew.

What he said. Freshing up the paint u have is one thing but changing it totally is another. Just pay someone else to do it. A home job usually looks like one.

I'm not to worried about stripping the car, was more after how hard it is to make it look decent. Is it somthing that should be left to the people with the know how or can it be done with good results yourself ??

what $$$ are you looking at for a colour change approximately? like how much more does it cost than a respray in the same colour? and can you leave the engine bay for later? i was thinking of just leaving the engine bay and spraying that when the engine comes out.

you could get away with it a bit more if your car is white as white bits wont look so odd when compared to new colour, ie engine bay. best to just go for a slight colour change then you dont have to do everything

im looking at a car at the moment vl turbo wagon, the paint was done about a year and a half ago, and the clear shiny finish is comming off ****in bad, is there any thing i could spray over to protect the paint and metal underneath, this car was prepared properly and the body is strait, but if i get it i wouldnt spray it for probably 2-3 years, soo some thing may need to be done in the mean time.

well if you know the right people then its a hell of alot easier...... Why not instead of a whole colour change and getting someone to do it, why not a pearl through it or a freshen up coat with the one ya got and a really good 2pac gloss coat over it????? Just a thought...... Im re doing mine from a cardinal red to a rubyier red with a bit of sparkle bout it and a heaps glossy coat.......... Then im painting my mags black to suite the windows, or getting chromes.. Mix n match man. Anyone know how much it will cost to get someone to redo the roof linin in a carpet and to look funky?!?!?!?

Do the carpet yourself...the moulded carpets you can buy fit quite well. Just remove the seats and trim from the door sills, put the carpet in, and cut around the shifter or wherever else. If you take the car to a trimmer, they will just use the exact same moulded carpet you can buy retail( I know becuase we used to when I did motor work). You may be able to use the old carpet as a template for the holes. Don't get loop pile...is impossible to keep clean. Get cut pile nylon..lasts for ever, and use some contact cement under the carpet where people's feet rest..stops the carpet from moving around and wearing out. Don't know how much the headling will cost, but I suspect the windscreens should come out for a proper job. Regards, Andrew.

My car's having a full bare metal respray. It is now only a shell, everythings is off of it, including windows. The dude painting my car said you can get away with leaving things on and painting around them but it will show in a couple of years(when doing colour change). Good paint is alot to do with the prep work before the paint is actually applied. This is especially important on darker finishes, as any slight imperfections on the body work become very visible. I'd suggest getting someone who knows what they're doing to do it, or it could end up looking like the paint has been applied with a roller. How do you get the roof lining out without removing the windows, i had to on mine to get it out?
