From what i've heard, getting it out is virtually impossible unless you do it the hard way.
There was some tips mentioned once before on this subject like piano wire around the seals and so on...
I was told that no windscreen guy could get it out and have it in one peice... cos of the glue/seals used.
Anyway just ring around some windscreen blokes and ask them what they think, if they say no, cover your dash, get a baseball bat, and have some fun.

panel beater said the same thing to me
most likely because the only way to get it out is to break it.. hehe
they are just covering their asses for when they give u the bill for the new windscreen, that they had to break to get out
its probably cheaper and easier to break it anyway..
i can imagine that a new windscreen would probably seal alot better than an old one that the dudes couldnt be bothered pulling old sealant and stuf off..
???????? 8)
i got quotes 600 to pull the windscreen out and fix the rust along the seals etc.
I wuoldn't have had to do it but my car has been unregistered for a while and needed to have a blue slip done
I dunno if they just break it and replace it?
don't smash it yet!!!! i got the rust repaired around my windscreen and they didn't smash it when they took it out. it cost me aroud $500-600 and included was repair of boot seal rust and a big rust patch in the boot, so shop around before you start smashing the windscreen. the guy that did mine said people come around and charge about $100 to remove and replace windscreen. they usually only break if there are stone chips in them, however mine had one chip and it didn't break so i guess i was lucky.
The winscreens in the VL are a safety glass screen which has two pieces of glass glued together by a clear plastic material which doesnt let it shatter when busted.
I do winscreens all the time and the ones in the VL are a bitch to get out. They are stuck in with urethane and the only way to get them out without cracking them is to carefully cut a small slit in the urethane and poke some piano wire through to cut it out.
Even then they still usually break. :?
The other problem is when you get the screen out you may need to go back to bare metal because the urethane is too built up. They have poxy zig zag shaped wire on the body that is a ******* to cut the urethane from. I think that it holds the vinyl trim.
Dont go tring to smash it out or youl'll just make it really hard to get the glass from the window hole.
I reckon its better to get a new windscreen anyway, old ones are always sandblasted and are a pain in the arse when you drive into the sun whereas new ones are clear as.
If your insurance company gives you a free one every year use it!
Its free afterall.

I've just pulled my rear windscreen out to fix a bit of rust. Came out really easily after i cut the seal off. Anyway the tricky part is going to be getting it back in.
Can someone tell me the procedure for putting in the rear windscreen?
thanks
For the sake of $130 for a new windscreen why would you bother with an old one ? It's nice to have a new screen
