Does any know the name of Opel that the VL was based on. there apparently one for sale around the place. I wouldn't mind getting some details on it, but I can't remeber what its called.

Opel MONZA, its a 2door 'VL', with a calais front, and what looks like a Alfa GTV/Giocattollo style rear but with out the wing. One was for sale in the unique cars ealier in year i think, for about 20k. It had the calais popups but a different front bar and no side skirting. Im sure someone has a pic that they post from time to time, maybe Sin does? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Are you sure the VL itself as a specific model was based on a specific Opel? I know the Commodore started on an Opel chassis and other bits and Holden have always followed global GM design cues, but I didn't know the VL design was borrowed from ze germans. I think the Commodore was based on the Opel Kadett, but I'm not 100% percent on that. Maybe that was something else. Someone correct me if I'm wrong... Darkstar, other than the headlights, are you sure the VL was based on the Monza or are you just guessing cos it looks the same?

That 2 door vl calais monza or whatever you want to call it, was just an opel monza with a vl calais front put on it, it wasn't an actual production car i don't think. its just the same as that vk going around with a vl front........

The earlier Commodore models (VB-VL) were based off the Opel Senator. The Monza was a two door hatchback version of the Senator. Only one Monza was officially brought into Aus by GMH and that is the one pictured above that Brock modified. The VN onwards Commodores were based off the Opel Omega. For pics of the Senator, Monza and Omega check out this page http://www.opelmotorsport.com/arkiv/pkw/mos/ The styling of the Australian cars differs from each of the Opel models that it was based off, but you will see some similarities.
