Hey has anyone tried one of these. The one I saw was in an add in Atomic magazine (computer mag). It had a caddy system that allowed it to plug into your car or into your PC (so you can load it up with mp3's) Worth about $1000, looks interesting.

You can pick up basic MP3 head units for $399, these days, why would you bother????

have a look at www.mp3car.com They have links to a few different sites that have done it. I'm currently in the process of doing mine. Looks like the total cost for it will be less then $100 for me. (i have a sh*t load of computer parts laying around) Plus its upgradable later on to put a TFT screen, and dvd player / TV in, stuff like that. (this is providing you have the knowledge on how to do it) If you have a interest in this, then i reccomend trying it, but if your after something just to play mp3's and couldn't give a rats ass on how it works, then go for a MP3 head unit. The head units that are available are pretty good anyhow.

I think you guys are missing my point. Perhaps I'd better scan the add in for you. The unit is about the average size of a 5.25" HDD, so similar in size to a normal head unit if not smaller. It has a Hard Drive in it and can store up to around 12,000 MP#3's. It has no CD drive at all. It does come with the Hard Drive caddy, computer caddy, in car remote, software etc though.

oooooooooo i forgot what these decks were called gggggggrrrrrrrr, i'm pretty sure i'm thinking of trhe same thing. it has no cd, u pull it out of ur car and plug it into ur pc and upload mp3's and have slap it back into ur car. down point is it doesn't have an amp inside the deck sooo all ur speakers will have to run off an outer amp, also there is no detachable face but u can pull the deck out and in easy as pie. i waz going to get one of these decks but i rekon the JVC mp3 player is heaps better becoz it had more features and all

with JVC or anyother headunits does it provide just as good bass or what???? I was told by prosound (car audio place) in jesmond that there **** and with around 100 tracks all on a cd it looses its bass and treble quality? Thus then the woofer doesnt properly pump out the bass. ALSO Say the cd is a 700mb cd, and you can fit 100 mp3s on with say another 60mb left....can you then mix the mp3s all as one big mp3 (MIX) and then put it onto a cd? Only problem with mixing is its like no searchable..... Any Input............ Cheeres Luke

the reason why MP3's are so small is because they are compressed (bout 12:1) and all non-audaible sounds get removed.. including a few of the higer and lower tones. You really don't notice it *that* much, if at all And if you buy the CD version, you can fill the CD up as much as you want and search it just as normal (just like a massive CD) Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Quote: can you then mix the mp3s all as one big mp3 you could do this already, download protools free from www.digidesign.com, winamp has a crossfade option, load a list hit crossfade and record on protools, at the end of your playlist stop recording bounce to disk, then burn it to cd any recording program would work, protools is the best one around though and easiest to use, can't go wrong with industry standard easy :P

As long as you have good quality mp3's you won't notice the difference, and trust me on this one, one of my mates is very serious about his sound quality, and bought a jvc mp3 deck, and it sounds awesome.

ok, then i brought my DVD player for my room, it was one of the cheap brands that have more fetures than the sony, pansonic, etc ones. it has the dolby digital decoding and 6chan output (which i wanted) anyway i notised that it could decode mp3 so i burnt a CD with the songs still in mp3 format (as u would) and i nothised that the sound quilty wasn't as good as CD burnt normaly (so all CD players can read them) (normal format) ( i know ya guys arn't dumb i just explain stuff). and that HDD deck, sony and maybe some other brands have proper 1 DIN Head units with flip down faces that as the singal CD player and a USB port for the inbuilt 10GB HDD for ya mp3's it cost a bit but is nice and neat. and MHRT ya friend with the Mp3 player deck got a JVC one, and i tolled u about the JVC that started from $399, if i'm worng, i'm sorry but i like getting credit for stuff. i just bought an JVC MP3 player for my car... looks sweet! its like an aluminium face and has more features than u can poke a stick at! sound quality is awesome and i only run kenwood 6" plits at front and 6*9's in the rear. as im seeling my car, i took out the deck and put in a crappy prosound hehehe the deck cost like $850 and i burn mp3's off my hard drive to cd's and hence, can be read by the cd player. mp3 is the compression type when converting big wav files to small mp3's. this is the reason why i can store ~170 songs per cd which can all be read by the mp3 player. all the id tags and everything can be read so this means that a title and artist is displayed on the screen as the song commences. Wikked!!

why would anyone want to BUILD a computer for their car? well, here are my reasons... 1. I just spent near $800 on a 5 channel Pioneer DEH-P7350. 2. I am a computer tech and have spare parts EVERYWHERE. 3. You can fit much more MP3's on a HDD than on a CD 4. I am sick of CD's 5. I just want to. I want to see what else i can do with it in there. Maybe attach a screen to it. Put on a little XCAM2 camera ... i dont know. I know f all about motors so instead im gonna play with my stereo, interior and computer...
