I did the brakes on my VL, and all you need to do is go down to Supercheap or Autobarn and grab some heat proof paint. I used AutoPro paint or something like that. Just use the stuff that says heat proof for engines and so on. DO NOT spray the actual discs... they have to be left bare metal but you can do the hub. The drums are cool to paint, and if you're doing the calipers, take the pads out. I sprayed mine Red, but i think Yellow looks heaps better. I saw a bloke do his green and it looks pretty stupid.

Get a can of VHT heat proof paint, shouldnt cost you much more than $10. Take your wheel off and clean the callipers thoroughly and allow to dry. Get plastic back, and cover your disc, but leave the parts you want to spray uncovered. Spray a light coat, let dry for 20 mins.. repeat this 3-4 times... then let dry.. DO that for each brake! Here is my results.. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yeah - mine are silver - I use heat proof paint and do them every 6 months or so for a freshen up. I've recently polished and chromed my calipers too - so the silver rotor/disc looks good with that. If you do paint on the rotor/disc, just go for a drive around the block and brake several times, it's a bit stinky but it'll come off. Masking tape and newpaper are fine to mask up with - don't forget to mask your spring and shock and guard too - overspray can look pretty bad. Hope that helps )

or you could just take out the rotors and brakes, which is a 10 min job anyway, for a better and more professional job. while your at it, inspect, change, or repack the bearings with grease, and probably check the pads too Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yeah thats a good idea Darkstar... And hey, start early on a saturday or sunday, do an oil change, check the levels, pack the bearings, check the pads and you've almost done a service. Saves a few bucks on labour, and get ya hands dirty. Top idea Darkstar.

I just used normal body paint on both my rear drums and front calipers and disc's (not the actual contact area of course). I just used a spray gun, i put grease on the contact area of the disc and sprayed then removed grease later so it took the paint away from the discs. After removing the grease i cleaned contact area with paint thinners to remove last of grease....
