My big question exactly -
all these ppl have run 11 - 12's with the stock vl turbo fuel system - how so??
i am just weighing up the differences between spending 4000 + on a different ecu - injectors + fuel pumps + tuned!
all i want - is a hot looking street car which is very easily capable of 12's - even 11's. now how is this done? a very nice example is the morone bt1 "JETPWPN" a very sexy looking car which is a 5spd man just like man that ran a 12 - then a 11! and from what i can see- its not running a custom ecu?
so what are my options? and is it viable to do?
malpassi? extra injector? external wastegate?
any sort of advice would be great - also if you look "JETWPN" has also relocated his AFM to the inlet manifold pipe as on calaisturbo/high perf/jetwpn. I too am playing with this idea.
heres the set up of mine already -
custom inlet plenum
t04 hybrid with vtrim back cut comp wheels
catch can
BOV
truck cut cooler
port & Polished head
2 head gaskets decomp plate variant(previous owner wanted to run more boost someday i guess - and yes she is a turbo motor )
stock ecu
stock fuel system / pumps
3 inch mandrel zorst
ported zorst manifold
minispool diff
5spd manual box - the good old MX7 - soon to be brass button
currently running 15psi on hi lo switch -
now - what are my options here?
cheers - thanks -

That's exactly my aim with the VL... into the 11's with hybrid turbo, malpassi, xtra inj... stock ecu, injectors etc ...
What does yours run ATM petros?
I've nearly got all my parts together now, and over the next 2 months should have it ready for an attempted 11sec run
I don't want to spend the big $$$ on autronic etc.. but want a fast reliable street car, like yourself...
It is possable tho, and i'm determined to get there 8)

My old VL had nizpro cooler, hi-flow turbo, zorst, extra injector, was a manual, had microtech and could get no more that 203 rwkw which was could enough for mid 12's but not much more, with this set-up I did loose to much on the street but on 15psi it was leaning out to the point were it was dangerous to keep it at 15psi.
I don't know how JETWPN got 11's with standard fuel system, it's possible to get 11's with the standard computer but he must have had something done to the fuel system and then a chip in the computer because there's no-way you can get more from the standard fuel system to get into the 11's
I would say in a manual you would need something like 230 -240 rwkw to get into the 11's and there is no way the standard injectors and fuel pump can get you these figures.
Every VL I have seen on a dyno with the standard fuel system struggles to get more than 190-200 rwkw.

thanks for the reply guys -
havent dynoed my baby yet- but shes running hella rich at 15psi!!!!!!!
might be the decomp plate - who knows-
what about this extra injector set up with a malpassi - even 2???
if it is tuned right - think i can hit the 12's easy?
tell me more about your set up - got any pics?

JETWPN had a larger fuel pump, rising rate reg and 1 xtra injector i'm fairly sure, when he ran his 11...
so the fuel system really isnt that stock... but still had the std computer in it.
The last step for me is sorting the fuel out, but i was going to run with the std pump, rising rate, xtra inj, and c if the fuel pump can handle what i want to do, upgrade if necesary, then maybe an 8th injector.. i'm not sure yet...
But i want that 11!!!!

You are correct.
Shaun (JETWPN) is a friend of mine and his car had the fuel setup as you mentioned.
Btw his ECU is stock ie not chipped.
My old VLt has the same fuel setup as JETWPN except no rising rate reg (IMHO they aren't that important) and ran a 12.8 and my brothers had the same setup as mine and he did a 12.0
Mixtures for mine and my bro's were around the 12.1.
hope this helps

Yer guyz im in the same boat as all ya'z.. im looking at a low 11, maybe even high ten, with the standard ecu.. a friend of mine has done this so it is possible... Whether u use a microfueller, pressure switch, malpassi, etc.. its possible to get big power out of standard ecu's.
Theres no limit on power, as someone said 240? ive seen many carz with over 400hp still retaining standard ecu's. At the end of the day, ur gonna have to have the car perfect on the day and the mixtures perfect. Playing with piggybacks/extra injectors on big boost, with **** mixtures will alwayz = grenade.
Yes, there is more danger and unreliability involved in doing this, compared to aftermarket ecu, however if the carz tuned well, not punished (detonation/leaning out) and alwayz maintained, theres a **** load of bux to be saved..

the guy from Hyperflow intercolers ran an 11 ages ago in his VL turbo with the standard ecu just to prove that it could be done. He had a modified fule system though including a couple of extra injectors.
It's a pity that thier website is under construction, coz all the info was on there.
Hang on...heres the link

09-03-05, 16:22 GMT+10#11 tick tick tick tick tick tick boooooooooooooom, thats what your vl will be doing if you dont wanna spend the extra bit of cash on the fuel system,a time bomb just waiting to go off....good day.
p.s is it worth the risk when it could end up costing a lot more in the end,do it once,do it right.

09-03-05, 18:18 GMT+10#13 they change the ecu for a few reasons. one being that you are limited on what cam you use with a standard ecu, unless its chipped etc. also because the maps are larger then standard so the car can be fine tuned further again. what omy-11s said, if your going to build a car you dont take shortcuts, because all it does is cost you more money than what you were initially going to spend.

what is the limitations of using a piggyback ecu?
are they cheaper than a whole ecu?
