Hey guys im only 17 and im picking up my first car this sunday its a standard Vl 5sp commodore in the most awesum condition with full service history im busting my arse to get behind the wheel of it. And i was wondering what are some cheap and relatively simple things that i can do to improve its performance. As im new with the whole car thing whats the easiest way to lower my vl as well?
thanx

Easy way to lower = angle grind the springs though this is also very dodgy.. the best way is to purchase lowered springs and shocks and either put in yourself or get a mechanic 2 do - you can get it all done at somewhere like Pedders but they'll charge $1k + but if you can source the new parts much cheaper (ie Trade( then you can get it all done with quality parts for $500 ish D
Cold air intake is a cheap and good mod - you can purchase the stuff and do it yourself ) Then get the exhuast done.
thanks for that i needed some where to start with some ideas. i also checked out your calais and its sweet as . all the girls around here drive excels and corrollas and stuff like that

Well I can access a Trade account at Motor Traders (dunno if it runs under the same name in other states) - anyway, I purchased Monroe lowered shocks and Aurora springs - pretty much the same as King Springs and they are produced by Industrial Springs here in Adelaide... so when the 'stance' wasn't right, I took it down there and got them to swap the springs till I liked it, but I'm sure if the car sat wrong that you could exchange them through the store )
if you want the cheap but affective spring set up, go munroe gas shocks and king springs in either low or super low (depending on your preferred ride) . if your not sure on the installation im sure your old man / older bro or just some mates that are good with cars can help u install. then all u need is a wheel alignment and your set. other mods for a n/a vl is a 2.5 inch pipe, and cold air intake, you can feed cold air into your vl via the stock air box with some fat tubing running under your front bumber forcind the air into the box. get a k and n air filter for your box and the vl will be going alot better. if u want to get fancy ligthen the fly wheel in your clutch for the awesome take offs.
