I know this might not be the right forum but i didn't know where else to put it.
Is 250,000 km a lot for a VN used just as a runabout?

depends on how well it's been looked after, 250,000 is a lot though, get it checked out and see what condition it's in

The VN motors tend to get the death rattle at just over 200K... just from my experience. Have a listen to it, see if its still in good condition. but they generally can't take much of a flogging at that ks...

unless its been treated very nicely, 250k kms is too much for a VN.
i mean ours, which we looked after and everything, did a head gasket at 90k and another at 194k. idles like crap, rattles.. and its only just done 200k now....

I own a Honda accord 1990, and its done 240km's. Its never been in a crash, regually serviced and ive never spend a cent on it going wrong. Its in the same condition as when it was made. On the other hand my friends mum owns a VN and its done around 210,000 and been serviced all the way through. They are always spending money getting things fixed. So it just goes to show that anything after 1988 than holden made is ****.

mate my old VN berlina got a floggin, its a 5 spd and doesnt go into 4th anymore but the engine still purrs, only because i got it serviced and tuned every 5000 k's. its now done 245000 on the clock, and still going strong in my sisters hands.

My old man owns a vn v6 wagon (wich suc) and has had nuthin but trouble with it, and it still has lowish k's 130 or round there somewhere
i think its gearbox is bout to die in the arse soon to, and he looks after it.
I also got a friend who has a 5.0L vn and A. it has 300,000+km's
and B. He floggs it (but looks after it aswell) and C. the big girls not missing a beat (at all)
So yerr the 8 is much better then 6, if your going on kms especialy
I know there is no-way i would look at a vn v6 with 250,000 on the clock

My mum has a VN with about 170 thousand on the clock and yes it rattles it's arse off, and we also just recently replaced the auto.
My opinion is VN's are terrible and the V6 engine is a disgrace not to mention excessive oil leaks and consumption.
Look at all the Melbourne Taxi's most are Fords and run on L.P.G with no dramas apparently the Ford's are more relible for Taxi work than the Holdens the motors don't last to long, but then I hear that the Fords **** auto's. If it were me I would probably go a Ford for daily runabout duty's they are cheap to buy and who gives a **** what others think at least it won't be in the workshop all the time requireing rebuilds to the mechanicals. 8)

why not just get an n/a VL as a daily driver? mine isnt doing the best atm but my brothers has 140,000k on the clock and it drives sweet as - i'd even say better than our AU2 failcon (other than having less power). the AU2 is rusting already too, would you believe that? its not even 2 years old yet.

go buy a deisel of just about any sort. they last long, dont use much fuel, and if looked after, never at all **** up !!!
my opinion anyways.

04-07-02, 11:19 GMT+10#11 My '84 Vk has 213000 on the clock more like 250 - 260 though and it still runs fine. idles a little bit rugh. i haven't spent any money on it except the front strut busted the bearing assembly but only $65 to fix cause i did it my self. apart from that no problems at all.
Like they say "They dont make em like they used to."

Ive head that as long as a vn is from 1990 or 91 then it'll be orright, but the 89's are sposed to be ****boxes...
