I have made myself a digital tacho to use for tuneup's etc. It works a treat on other older cars i have by connecting it to the coil...Now on my VL i haven't a clue where to run it to, it says not to run it to the coil and ive heard running it to the tacho signal wire, well ive tried that but it cuts the engine off 8O  So im just wondering where it is i should run the signal wire to?? (keeping in mind the digi tacho has a low signal input & also a coil input). Help would be appreciated...

when i hooked up my monster tacho which had 4 wires on it, red: power, white: lights, black: ground and green: signal wire. for that i simply looked in the VL manual and found the corresponding wire coming off the ECU, i then spliced the wire to that and it works fine now i dont understand why it cut the engine off though?? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

there is a signal wire taped to the part of the loom which connects to the coil (i think its there , will check later) , anyway that can be used for the signal for an aftermarket tacho.

Thanks. The only problem with that is that i want to use the tacho only temporarily like for tuneups etc. not as a permanent hookup :? I am not sure if the tacho signal wire (located just above the alternator a green wire with a plug from what i can remember) is just a link from the computer or not...

Thats the one i talked about above, when i hook it up to that the engine cuts out 8O Keep in mind the tacho does work for older engines by running it to the coil using the coil input for the tacho...

Just examining the wiring diagram of the engine management system. There is a wire that runs to the coil and power transistor from the ECU, this wire is also run to the Dash Tacho. I will look into using this wire to use for my digital tacho...I may have to run an external plug off the coil or something of the like to be able to temporarily hook up my Digital Tacho. Thanks for the help... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
