I was just wondering how I'd fair (I'd be the VL) against my mates' Mazda. I'd figure the VL'd cane, but for the fact that there isn't THAT MUCH power difference, and the Mazda doesnt lose power because of the front wheel drive thing it's got going on. Both cars would be completely stock. I just want to know what to expect when we drag eachother, after I get my P's Thanks for any help. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

You'll chop him. You should have more top end then him. Have both of you got same gearbox type (ie auto vs auto) If you've got different ones ie (he's manual your auto they might be a bit of a comp, unlees you can launch properly). Keep us posted on how you get on it'll be intestering to know.

Keep us posted on how you get on it'll be intestering to know. It'd more likely be over a bit more than a quarter (like 500m or so). We'd both be running stock manuals. He's got a dual (looks to be about 2" each pipe) sports exhaust, but I'm not sure if it's engine thru, or just a tip. A mandrel bent 3" from engine to tip wouldnt help my car, would it? From what I hear (I know NOTHING about engines, except what I've read) they're really only any good for cars with turbos. I have no other idea what I can do to my car to up the performanc, without spending thousands of dollars. Any ideas?

A 3 inch is too big go the 2.5 inch as with a 3 inch you loose too much back pressure. Get decent extractors (genie or pacemaker) and a performance airfilter. This should go alright. also try advancing the timing. I haven't actually done this myself. check the forum here (http://www.ozperformance.net/viewtopic.php?t=573). Also run low on fuel its a major weight saver!!

I really wanted a turbo, but only have a budget of $6,500 (that's REALLY pushing my budget) and I haven't seen anything around that price in a while. Minimum car knowledge is a bitch. Update on my mates' car. It's got extractors (I'd always wondered why the thing was so loud for a "stock" car with a new exhaust, but now I know). The thing's not a bad car. Certainly grown on me. He took me for a drive down chapel st. the other night, and having never driven down there at night I was quite happy with the standard of cars there (although the only half decent VL I saw was a yellow BT-1 with guages). The two cop cars we saw had both pulled over VERY stock-looking 1995-ish lancers, with no sound systems. I was shocked. Oh yeah. When we race, it'll likely be on normal roads, but we're not that careless as to put ourselves (or anyone else) in danger. We've got a nice wide (5 lane) bit of flat (well maintained) highway, out in the sticks that isn't used much at certain times. Anyway, thanks all for the help. I'll update you all when we finally get around to doing it.. Peace. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Not real sure what a standard vl made on a dyno but with the twin camhead it made 141hp (103kw) at the wheels. I thought this was alright for a atmo vl. Well atleast I could chop most other atmo sixes with ease. the motor has since crapped itself. I'm looking at getting a complete rb25det to drop in until I get more money to complete the head convserion properly this time.
