Hey there guys and gals, tonight or on the weekend I am buying a 12" Pioneer sub and I was wondering what thickness would be best for the sub box? Any ideas? Thanks

I used 16mm on my old box -- just back sure you seal the gaps up nice and tight after you make it Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yeah 16 or 18mm is fine, Unless your stupid like me and put 4x 12inch subs in your boot Then youve gotta use 25mm, but it weighs a ***in ton, mine weighs 65kgs with subs but no *******s gonna steal it :-) Use liquid nails and screws when you put it together, then use silicon (****loads) on the inside once its all together. Good Luck, Have fun. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yeah, about 18mm.. make sure you use lots of screws, silicon (or liquid nails) in all the joins, make it solid as a rock

As the guys have said, 16 to 18mm MDF is whats commonly used. And when you do it, seal up all the gaps with something like Selleys All Clear. Another thing i did was mount the cable board thing with a sheet of rubber (like a gasket) from Clark Rubber. I don't recomend gluing that in incase you want to use it later with a different design, but the rubber is a good seal.

**** Smith sell a great round 'plug board' you can stick in -- looks great and makes it simple to un-do if you ever take the box out

Another tip, get your mdf cut to size, either when you buy it, or take it to a cabinet making place to get it cut. If you get it cut properly, there is basically no need for liquid nails/silicone etc.

Thanks heaps, yeah I recon i'll get some 18mm MDF some time soon and as people have said we'll use ****loads of screws and silicon stuff... I'll only get 18mm stuff cos it's just for driving around (at the moment) Haha cool, one more post and i'm a Regular Joe (anne) :P

i've used 17mm mdf for my sub box and it seems pretty stable to me, also i've heard of fibreglassing the gaps in sub boxes, anyone know about this?

Yeah, As long as you let it dry first... same with most of these things you use to fill the gaps, let it air and dry for a few days so none of gasses kill your sub once you close it all up Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
