i wanted to know is the VL turbo diff just as strong as the non turbo someone was telling me that there both just as strong as each other but one is a single spinner the other is LSD is that true??? are they both the same strength???

Nah the Vl Turbo diff is alot stronger than the n/a diff.
The turbo diff is a 4 pinion 28 spline LSD while the na is a 2 pinion 25 spline open wheeler.
So yes there is quite a bit of difference in strength.

Not all VLT diffs were L.S.D from the factory as most people think many were single wheelers, but they are still strong 28 spline axels also the same as the VL V8's, And the L.S.D's were all 4 pinion were as the N/A VL diff used a 25 spline axels in both a 2 pinion L.S.D or single wheeler.
Many of the quicker VL's on the track still retain the standard Borg-Warner diff.

Yeah if you get an open wheeler turbo diff, you know the owner was to stingy to specify an LSD which was an option for an extra $70.
Well so they tell me, lol

Not all LSD's were 4 pinion, it all depends. What you have to do is to check the part number on the diff and post it here, I will tell you what it is or if the number has been taken off pull the rear axle out and count the splines...

Ive got a two pinnion 25 spline lsd in my vl, i had it fitted about a year ago when i converted to rear disks, the diff is what is known as a BTR78 unit, a lot of cars share the same housing hence the interchangibility of parts. The vlt & V8 use 28 spline axles and a four pinnion center, the easiest way to tell a factory lsd in a vl is the filler plug, if it is brown then its a lsd, if its black its not. of course it could have been painted or replaced which in that case jack it up and turn a wheel, if it goes the same way as the one your turning its lsd, if it goes the other way its open wheeler.
I think a lot of people dont like lsds because they are more a preformance diff then amything else, remember a lsd is a handfull in the wet and when i boot my car it goes sideways quite savagely.

so in the end which is better for a VLT? L.S.D or Mini spool? by the way is an open wheeler the same as mini spool?

The LSD would at least have some "give" in it unlike a minispooler and would make the car handle better in the dry at least.
A LSD would also get the power to the ground a lot better as both wheels are spinning,it is trouble my borhter is having with his VN when he does put his foot down a bit (rarely I must add) as a bloke in a 5 litre VN Commodore tried to flog him off and even though his car was a V6 it is also a manual and had trouble with keeping the power to both wheels as the right hand tyre kept smoking up whilst the other braely moved,an LSD would probably fix that.

a tight lsd is better in my opinion.
open wheeler is not the same as a mini spool. an open wheeler has small spider gears through which power is transferred between the wheels. a mini spool removes those gears and locks the axles together.
RB30DEVL: has your brothers vn got a spool?
