I'm interested in upgrading my brakes. VT brakes just won't cut it for so I've decided to look else where. I've heard of talk of R33 4 piston brakes being used but I've never actually come across anyone who has done it. Does anyone know whats involved? What size rotors will I need? What size master cyclinder does a R33 GTS-t have? How do the calipers attach on an R33? Can I just weld on a bracket to make em fit? how much do the calipers cost? Below are some pics of R33 brakes (sorry ex-static for using your pics )

I'm putting the R33 GTS-T callipers on my car (front and rear) I'm using 330mm discs up front and std dia on the rear all drilled and slotted (dba's).
you need to make an adapter plate to hold the callipers on (pretty straight forward) and get new hoses made up to suit. Nissan used the same callipers on the 300zx which used a 15/16 master cyl, but must flow more than the vl one. I'm going to measure up the skyline booster/master cyl and see if i can fit it otherwise will probably use SV5000 ones as they had 4 spot/2 spot set up on them and should nearly bolt on. The whole setup will need to be engineered so the adapter plates and hoses will have to be good quality (as it should be on ya brakes) - and dont weld on the struts as the calliper mount is cast and could crack easily if you weld it. Callipers cost $600 for all 4. The front would be a bitch to fit if you used std dia rotors.
I've read in an old commodore magazine that a good brake upgrade for old commos was to fit VL turbo rotors with some 4 spot calipers from an RX7. I think it was a series 4. If you already have the turbo rotors then you simply have to make up a bracket to hold the calipers and use some good quality brake fluid and your laughing.
My uncle has the magazine at home so i will check up on the facts for you if you want.
I find that the VB-VS rotors are crap as they are too thin, over heat, warp & fade too quick, that is the problem with my VL & my brothers VN,which is why we are looking at the VT-VX conversion.
I drove my fathers VX Commodore & its brakes crap all over the older Commodore brakes.
yeah, the vt onwards had a better brake setup all over - not just thicker rotors, but better callipers, higher flowing master cyl, better booster as well.
Hi,
as i've mentiontioned a few times on here, i've fitted 300zx front brakes to my vlt. They r the same caliper as the skyline with a 289mm X 30mm rotor. I moded a pair of standard vl hubs and fitted the Z's rotors to them. the calipers r easy to fit, single ptate with 4 holes and 4 bolts, but do something diff with the rotors. Interceptor and vl calais rims still fit but only by a few mm! I'm fairly happy with the setup, works well.
As for the brake line connection, nissan use a standard brake flared steel pipe fitting. it has the same thread as the banjo bolt used on the vl brake so i just made some spacers as the bolt bottoms out b4 doing up. The nissan caliper has a machined surface to tighten on to, it doesn't leak so...
No m/c u/g but my pedel is harder and spongier so i prob do something bout it 1 day. I think my brake sys had issues to begin with
Cheers.

How is this conversion going? Have you got any pics? Have you done anything about the master cylinder yet? Are you going to replace it or just get it bored?
sir calais - ive got a few pics , I'll scan them later and try to post em up here but that hasn't been working for me lately so i'll email em to you too.
Ive got all the parts now except the adapter plates for the callipers and the new booster/ master cylinder. The master cyl will be getting replaced but i am unsure of wether to adapt a GTR item or get something aftermarket.
if you are interested in this conversion i would be able to supply adapter plates for you if you want as the design will be engineer approved.
or try this. I think you have to copy and paste the url into the adress bar
