jeff just wondering, what else do i need.
i can get a top end efi off a vn, heads, manifold, exactors, throttle body, cam, pushrods, ecu, everything etc. i know i'll need a eletirc fuel pump.
sooo what else is need to do?
Dude, you also need an EFI tank and lines (return line is bigger with EFI and return assembly on tank is different)
You also need a speed sensor for the computer. They out a pulse generator in line with your existing cable so the computer knows the vehicles speed. O2 sensor, as close to the engine as possible. I had constant fault codes when my O2 sensor was too far down the exhaust system.
All the sensors, like TPS, MAT, IAC motor, Coolant Temp sensor, dizzy etc etc.
battery needs to be relocated. either get a vl 6 cyl battery tray or put the battery in the boot.
harmonic balancer pulley is different (belts won;t line up with carby balancer pulley). power steering, a/c and alternator are in different spots so you need the efi versions of these with their associated brackets, unless you run a carby style efi manifold, then everything bolts up in teh carby location to the efi heads.
I've still got that wiring loom if youre interested. Not the prettiest, but cost me $715. I'll sell it to ya for $250. Was only on the car for about 6 weeks. I took it off as I wanted something neater and my fussiness cost me $800 for another loom, so $250 is a bargain. It's brand new, ready to plug in and go.
email me if you're interested or have any more questions. it's so hard to list everyhting you need as there is heaps.
Cheers,
Jeff.
hmmm soo even running the old block i need to change all the pullies and stuff. hmmmm not good. wouldn't i be able to just run a bigger return line to the tank i already have?
yeh probably, but i just went and found a wrecked vl and took the lines out of that. Cost me $10. Picked up a long range VN tank for $50. It just needs to have the filler neck cut down to fit, nothing major.
I think you may find the breather assembly at the tank is different, but can't be hard to sort out.
The water pump pulley is the same, but the balancer pulley has different offsets, but as mentioned, if you run carby style EFI manifold, all the old stuff bolts up to the EFI heads.
ok
so a vn tank will bolt up into a vk easy enough?
also with the pulley's all i'm running is power steering and alternator. can u explain in more detail why the harmonic blancer needs changing? sorry but i still don't understand. if the water pump puller is the same should the harmonic blancer still line up becoz ur not really touching the water pump at all.
now have u run cat's as well? or can u get away without running cats becoz it's a carbie car?
i most likely will be buying a wrecked vn 5ltr and just transplating all the stuff but i just need to know what i need and what i don't have to worry about.
hey dude. The harmonic balancer doesn't need to be changed, but the pully that bolts to it does. The air con/power steer/alt etc line up differently in the carby vs efi, so just get the pulley.
Tank bolts straight in, just the filler neck is too long so you'll need to do some stuffing around to cut it down to the right length.
I already had a cat fitted as it is a VL, so that was no probs. I just got the exhaust shop to make me up a Y piece from the extractors to the cat.
Best thing to do dude is give me a ring as there's heaps of stuff to do. Easy enough, just time consuming.!!!

Cheers.
About $5-6000. but everything was new, ie block, heads you name it. Only second hand items were the manifold, throttle body, sump and oil pick up. Everything else in the motor was brand new, including valves, springs, collets, retainers, oil pump, water pump, balancer, hses, sensors etc etc etc.
Would cost a fair bit less to put the efi top end on a carby motor.
hey, i just fitted a efi 5.0 and th700 to my vh sle (wired it up and built the motor myself). efi was out of a vn calais, i used the long range brock tank (out of a vh) camira efi pump has return line, red 308 motor bottom end balanced. at the moment i am running vt cast iron manifolds and vs 5.0 ute y piece with a 2.5 inch high flow cat, i used the 6 cyl trimatic tailshaft which bolted straight up had to get the tailshaft cut and balanced to suit the vl turbo diff (will post pics if any one wants to see). I have just purchased a vh hdt adp no634 and will be transferring everything into that (has front end damage $800 to fix and cost me $600 to purchase the whole car - less motor and box. email if u need any questions [email removed] all up cost me around 2k - 2.5k ,motor is fully rebuilt
cheers chris
sean go back to your carby's , you can use the std pully set up and leave the carby accessories( p/s , alt) but the pipe out of the throttle body has to have a bend to clear the carby power steering .
The spped sensor is for vr ( computer )and onwards vn-vp have no such probs.
I looked at injection too but i dont reckon its worth it personally unless u run a harrop manifold and a carb (i.e. injection perfection 4 barrel throttle body ar active twin hats and throttle bodies). heaps more power than the banana manifold. u gotta think that if decent new injectors cost around 100 bucks a pop there goes 800 that u could spend on tuning a carby. anyway i also wanted to say that its worth getting a decent harmonic balancer cos ive just busted two stock ones. they aint much chop and shouldn't have come out on the brocks anyway.

I havea VP computer in my VL and it uses a speed sensor. If you are running a Kalmaker computer, you can turn it off, like u can with all the fault codes too. (why you would i don't know)
