Could someone give me some information on external coils and the pro's and con's that go with them. Plus are they a waste of money.

They are very expensive, if you do use CDI ( Capasative discharge ignition) The main advantage it that every coil gets full saturation before firing resulting in a stronger spark. The CDI coils require CDI Control modules too..
