same thing happens to me. the auto box has to 'warm up' before it kicks into 4th. it has to reach 45 degrees or some crap, thats what i was told. every single vl auto box will not kick into overdrive until its warm.... hope this helps Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yes yes that is correct. the transmission must warm to 45 degrees before it will change into 4th... that's why it only happens in the morning or when u haven't driven the car for a while etc... no problem at all. don't worry about it.

It's a bit annoying though, when you're just sitting on about 80-90 out to school and it sounds like your peaking out first gear and making a ****load of exhause noise! It does some pretty brutal shifts from 1st -> 2nd on really cold mornings too :?

my car really seems to serge from first to second in the morning and its not really a good feeling at all, and droping back into second while slowing down if i dont have the power button in, that sometimes makes a pretty embarssing sound as well DAMN THESE AUTO ****S

why would having the power button out make an 'embarrasing' sound. all that does is control 4th gear. it's got nothing to do with second??? :? :? i had some guy at uni try to tell me that his calais gained 25kw with the power button out (on) coz it put the car into a different mode??!!!! i told him to **** off, of course.... :P :P :P

hehe, it makes it wind out a LOT more, but I still have to shift manually to get it to work properly Embarassing sound I get is if you put it into first, cos it make a nice loud clunk ops: Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

the power button has nothing to do with first or second, or third for that matter. if you floor it in first, with power on or off, it will wind out to 5 grand or whatever its meant to wind out to. only difference is in third, coz if power is on, it won't change into fourth!!! hey platinum, i love the sound when my car drops back to first, when u do it manually. u cruze at bout 35km/h if ur gonna stop, drop it back to first, pull a little compression lock and listen to the transmission whistle all the way down till you stop!!! i've heard its not good for your car though (timing belt and trans), but it sounds good. a deep note on an exhaust makes it even betta.... oh, it definatly winds out more with the power button 'on' I have done extensive testing...lol If I put mine into 1st doing 35, my diff gives this nice loud solid CLUNK -- well, i'm presuming it's the diff.. but, it does make a real chunky gurgling sound after that (the exhuast that is) Manually shifing is really the only way to go, how else can you get your auto to chirp into 2nd (how impressive) :P Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

PWR is just overdrive - tells the auto computer to hold gears for towing trailers, etc. Dr00 is right, it does it automatically when you floor it because you activate the kickdown switch. floor it, then take the foot off. 'PWR' appears in the dash, then goes about 3 secs later. (unless your globe is gone) I was told it changed things like fuel mix and quantity too, but i recon its bull****. I'd like to have it linked to the EMS tho, so it adjusts that stuff too... The reason it won't kick into fourth when cold is BECAUSE its cold - the box automatically overdrives to heat up, just like your motor idles higher. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

mate, sit on about 60, with no PWR. your car will just drop into 3rd. keep the foot steady and press PWR out. The orange dash light comes on, and overdrive kicks in, changing down again. It'll change at about 3500, not 2500 for example. (depends where the foot is). Even better, go from standstill, and put PWR on. only put your foot down half way. it'll hold, and change gears abruptly cos it's reving out more than you're used to. all it does is give you more 'torque' (power) the WHOLE time, rather than having to kick down. (which is meant for overtaking). Overdrive works at all speeds, all it does is delay gear changes from the auto computer for towing trailers or fat mates. The auto will respond the same way when its cold. It does it automatically tho, and doesn't light up with the PWR light cos you aren't meant to use the power until its warm anyway. The car will have more low speed power, but no more low rev power. It gets its power by overdriving (overreving). "HOW HARD IS IT TO UNDERSTAND?!" Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
