I was recently told that a friend of a friend got all her money taken from their bankcard, after receiving a phone call 'from the bank' about 1 week ago.
Essentially, a man, who was posing to be the bank, got hold of all of the persons details such as pin numbers, passwords, etc, though some very clever social engineering. The scenario was possibly staged into some mockup fraud or account violation/checkup.
If you do receive a phone call from the 'bank', just say that you will be going down there to check it out. If you can you could try and get some of their information, but i strongly urge that YOU DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY BANK DETAILS.
A large sum of money was taken out of this bank account, which was mostly finance cache for her new car, so she doesnt fall behind - a common practice.
There is also an ATM scam where the theif puts a peice of transparent plastic in the card slot. You put your card in, ATM doesnt register because the transparent plastic is blocking the magnetic strip from reading, and the card keeps on rejecting the pin number.
Theif or two stand behind, 'waiting to use the atm' or are on an atm next to you, watching you furiasly entering your pin number several times. You leave in fustration, thinking the card is jammed or swallowed by the ATM. Theif comes up to the atm after you have left, uses a pair of tweezers and extracts the card, enters your pin, and drains your savings.
Its hard enough as is earning enough money for your car and mods, so i suggest you take note and be paranoid. If you got a problem with anything involving money, go to the bank, and talk it over personally. The wait is worth the security, so dont trust the phones - not even to check your balance, as people can record the DTMF tones from entering your pin if you use a cordless with another cordless phone etc.
The above Bank Conman situation is real, so i suggest that be careful, because it could happen to you.
If you have any idea of any other scams like the above, post here so people do not fall into the trap.
BTW, those "Investment Programs", such as SUPATAB which use 'computer simulated results thats been developed for 7 years', which also require a minmum account of $500 + $5,000 for the actual program, are a RIPP OFF SCAM, designed to take your cash and not make you the promised $50,000 in 2 years.
IF its too good to be true, thats your mind telling you get out while you can !
