I own a VL Calais 1986 (acctually a demo series 1)I recently got sick of the stock stereo and went stupid and spent alot of money on a great stereo - which was all well and good for about 2 months. But now ( as expected )the 6" focal splits have managed to cause vibrations and rattles in the doors. I have taken al the trims of etc and looked and could not find where the damn rattles are coming from!! Any ideas??
Have u checked ummm the handle on the outside of the door ?
Maybe some of the power window equipment it loose
Lil things like that... can rattle and piss u off
I have an 87 VL SL and i installed a nice system and at first didnt have vibrations in doors but now i have major vibration in passenger side front door (even from soft music levels) and some in the rear passenger side door. I havent yet looked into the prob but my guess is the rod(s) running from the door lock to the inside sideways latch.
problem with door pods is if there not installed properly, even if they are insalled properly then it vibrades the door, then ya speakers **** up. You can take em out either cos ya have a huge hole in ya door trims. Better music out put with front & back door pods and parsel shelf speakers....
the rattles you guys are having is that the door skin has been blown/rattled off the strengthening bar on the outer side of the inside of the door
use some silicone or sikaflex and you won't have any more dramas...
D
Turn the music up louder and you won't hear the rattles, thats how I fixed it
Hell when you have it loud enough, you can't hear sirens, horns or the silly prick swearing at you caus you just cut him off :P

any decent car stereo should have quality sound deadinig installed. nothing ****s ya more than hearing rattles over the music, and if your using subs the whole car rattles like ****, especially the boot.
do it once and do it properly!! i recently intstalled a 15k system in my vt and spent another 2k on sound deadining and the car is so solid you cant even hear **** when your out of the car with the system up. that keeps the cops away and any theives possible interest. my boot doesnt raddle at all and im running two 13" focal subs!
I've got a VN APV and the 2 15' sony xplod subz in my boot vibrate sooooo bad. The bass sounds great from the inside but outside of the car it's just all vibration, the louder it is the funnier it sounds (unless it's from a distance lol) I've removed the numberplate and the lights panel, tightened everything trying to figure out what's rattling, it sounds good when the boot is up. I'm guessin it's all the bits in the bootlid. I need something guaranteed to stop the rattling. I wanna ppl 2 hear my bass not my boot shakin :P
I'm not sure about the vn's, but i know with the vl's the actual top part of the boot lid is only tac welded to the supports or whatever they are. Like the triangle parts on the boot lid. Anyway open the boot, look at the lid, you'll see that there is gaps everywhere, that could well be what is causing all the noise, I know it was causing a lot on mine. The easiest way to fix this, now i know it sounds cheap, but just jam a heap of cardboard in the gaps. Then if it does stop the rattles, you can do it more professionally later. I'd show you pics of what i'm trying to explain, but mines a bit custom now, and all thats covered over.
ok thanx i'll try that although i'm not sure cardboard will stop all the vibrations (sounds 2 easy lol)... do u think selastic (however u spell it) will stop it 4 good? what did u do??
omg it's nearly 7am i think i'm gonna go 2 bed soon, been cruzin all nite lol yeah whatz a few tanks of fuel??

Yeah the cardboard will stop it rattling, just have to jam a heap of it in there
I was going to use silicone for a more permanent fix, but now I've got a heap of glue and carpet covering all the cardboard up

Another thing that gets me is that my 10 stacker won't read burnt cds.. i've tried that many times and in different slots and everything but it just won't read them..
Another way ive found to fix the boot lid is to buy a can of that space invader **** that you use to fill holes in walls. You just shove the nozzle in the holes in the bootlid and fill the sucker up. It expands and makes your bootlid tight as

I've seen that space invader stuff used before, dunno how well it works.
I just suggested the cardboard, caus thats what fixed my problem, and usually people have cardboard around the house, i just used an old cereal box, so its pretty inexpensive, and if it don't solve the problem, it hasn't cost you anything
