It is a good conversion but it is quite expensive for what you get.
I worked out that it would cost around $8000 to do the conversion properly and that was with me doing a lot of the work myself, and for that money you get 187kw (flywheel) - but throw 8 grand at an RB30ET and you will have a lot more power!
It depends what you want - a power machine or a vl with a nice smooth engine, 10 years newer technology and it would also be a great platform for modification in the future.
I'm fitting the RB25 head to my RB30 to get the best of both worlds and it is not going to cost anywhere near as much as doing the engine swap.

Why dont you just buy an R33
heh.. the engine is so much smoother, and a twin cam turbo, well.. gotta love 8000rpm revs..
I can only imagine how itd perform in a VL

yeah but why it seemed like such a good idea is coz i have the rb30et and if i get an rb25 id sell the rb30 for 3000 or something and front cuts for rb25s are about 4000. i thought since it slips right in with no hassles it would be a pretty cheap way of getting more power, manual box, newew motor etc. but thats the second person who has said it will cost around 8000 to do it so i guess its not as good as it sounds (as usual).
stockcalais - i live in bassendean atm but used to live in shenton park. i work in crawley and my gf lives in nedlands so im always over there.
chilled - i would love an r33, if only it were that simple

Best value for money u/g (less then $8000!!). RB25DE, non turbo, non VVT eng. pick up for bout $1000. RB20DET exhaust manifold, crank angle sensor converter, and a head gasket is all u need. u could fit the stock vl turbo injectors but u'll need bigger, get the computer chipped. Turbo will bolt on, just need to move all the pipework as turbo mounts in a diffirent place. Head bolts straight on. VVT head require an extra oil feed plumbed (i had to do it). slight mods to wiring loom.
CAS Converter u ask? that is a little unit that i have designed and built myself. makes use of the 6 coil ignition. factory ecu still controls timing, it just acts as a dizzy. One catch, this is very new and not fully tested yet but very soon. i'll build one for u for $200.

2invl,
what computer are you using ?? I was under the impression that the computer from the RB25DE wouldn't be any good on a 3L turbo ????

I was speaking in the cheapest poss terms, in that topend power would be bugga all more but would run and be very upgradable in the future.
Using a stock RB30ET ECU, stock AFM, injectors, would give the right air/fuel mix, most of the other sensors/actuators are the same or interchangable. the only prob is the CAS and the 6 coils which my CAS converter fixes!
i could make some real money here!!!
