Running a vl turbo on straight gas research?
is it viaable? has it been done?
gas does have a much higher octane rating -
no need for aftermarket injectors i take it?
can run a ****load more boost or am i going backwards??
whats the pro's and cons of this -
thanks again guys -
I'm pretty sure they have done it, maybe go and talk to them about it. The main problem is that for the one or two people who have done it, there are many more who have done it on petrol, so there are many more who can give you advice, help, etc.........
yes u can get your turbo onto straight, gas.
there are 2 ways, a new type of gas injection (not really sure if it is out yet)
and then the normal way of having the gas mixer on the air intake piping.
i have heard of gas having a high octaine but i really don't know or seen any real evidence of it.
one of the down sides of gas, is if u run a cooler. because the gas runs through your cooler and if a back fire occurs, it will blow like a bomb.
however there are precusions and ways to avoid it. i believe u can get a gas mixer from impco, or gas research which replaces your throttle body. then gas dosn't go through your cooler.
i also belive u can run both gas, and petrol
..gas does have a higher octane then ULP or PULP so its naturually good for turbo charged engines (not sure of exact figure but I'm pretty sure its octane rating is up over 100+) - I'm actually suprised its not done more often. I have seen a Commodore with a supercharged RB30 on gas and it ran well. Another advantage of using gas is you dont have to worry about fuel injectors, pumps, return fuel lines and regulators etc...
It has been done plenty of times, maybe not on the RB30 but I have seen a few turbo charged straight 6 XF falcons which it works really well with.
You definitely would not run the gas through your cooler :!: unless you have a deathwish. The gas research carb replaces your throttle body adn would sit on the intake plenum. the Commodore I saw had a burst panel built into the plenum incase of backfires. You would not be able to run it on dual fuel - I dont know why you would want to - just not practical.
Go for it - it will work well. :P
I've thrown up the article i think that HOLD64 is talking about, is interesting reading...
www.slick.i8.com/index.html (http://www.slick.i8.com/index.html)
just have to hope it works now, hehe
*edit - there go now it should be good as gold*

Guys i am now convinced.
after doing more research, and speaking to jason (11 second silver falcon on gas research) he just organised me a drive in a gas research vl turbo with over 260 RWKW.
All i am saying is- convinced.
the smoothest running motor i have ever heard. and the damn quickest vl turbo i ever say in -
on 20psi which he calls - his everyday boost. this car runs absolutely ballistic. and on GAS!!! 500 km to a tank! no detonation, not a peep from this motor
2 weeks from now there will a be a sunday raceday at calder. i am almost certain that this car will break into the 9's.
i was also a bit, well very sceptical, but you have to see it to believe it.
well done - and thanks to jason from gas research for the demo.
they will be seeing me soon.
There is a VL going around with the plates BTANY1 which is on straight gas and this car has major power and would be close to running 11's from what I have seen, I know it's got cooler, aftermarket plenum etc, it's white and is around the runs on princess hwy all the time.
Shouldnt have any problems at all
i was reading into it , and the normal LPG conversions apparently use some sort of gas bbq regulator. but the guys at gas research in dandy have made new throttle body which has its own ecu and determines the right amount throughout the rev range.
no problems with these conversions at all.
all i am saying is - go down to calder not this sunday but the next and watch this blue lpg monster rock the 9's.
if you like even call Jason from gas research in dandenong a call - he is a great help man - knows his stuff. and has done a ****load of turbo cars with this conversion - the power gain and smoothness of the car is unbelievable -
Where was the gas tank under the car or in the boot, did it replace the petrol tank?
Do u know approx cost?
sorry bout all the questions Im just interested, if its that good I might consider doing it
Thats alright all you need then is a realllllllllly big battery and a manual box, drive it on the starter motor to the servo

I got quoted today for it.
4200
its 3000 for the gas research system installed and dynoed. that includes completely removing the fuel tank, removing all injectors, removing all fuel pumps - and putting the gas tank in place. custom throttle body installation + computer to run the gas research system.
and then i also got reccommended and have seen working in action - the add on for this which is a haltech ignotion system.
this whole system if you add it up - works out a ****load less than buying a aftermarket ecu, aftermarket injectors, bigger fuel pumps, etc etc.
so im paying 4200 drive in drive out.
drive in with approx 160rwkw and drive out with approx 220 + rwkw.
no need for aftermarket stuff
runs a much higher octane than optimax
less to no chance of detonation
run more boost
car runs a ****load smoother
EPA cannot touch you when running gas - so you wont get done for intercoolers etc etc.
and the way it is designed , you do not lose any power, its all power gain.
ring Jason from Gas Research - his mobile is on fullboost under feature cars/11 second falcon. he is a great guy.
all i am saying is - i saw it . and believed it. it was a absolute monster and the engine was purring.
If you speak to him , he will have all the answers to your questions ,hes a great guy -

Petros ... Jason would have never told you 9's.. its a 10 second car, it was the first time at a track, and best time he pulled was a 11.80.. with 18psi of boost.. jasons sure it will break into the 10's with about 22psi.. U gotta remember, this things got a Huge turbo, and stalling it up off the line would be a absolute pain with a tight convertor...
Jason doesnt work FOR gas research too by the way, so dont call gas research expecting him to talk to ya, he works for himself. Plus, I wouldnt bother calling him for advise unless you were serious about the whole thing. and cashed up. His Very busy. But as you can see, if you have the cash, you can have a car as mental as Tims VL.. look at that engine bay, a absolute work of art.
