I am looking to fit extractors/headers to a 1977 Statesman 308 engine which is a VL. I have made some inquiries about what might be suitable and have been getting confusing responses. Would prefer to use off the shelf items rather than custom fabrication if possible, I am possibly thinking of using Hurricanes or Pacemakers. Not fussed whether they are tri-y or 4 into headers. I want a 3 inch outlet from the header. I figure I will need headers specific to the 308 Kingswood/Statesman engine, but not sure how they would and if there would be any clearance issues. Any suggestions or advice, or has some one done anything similar? P.S. The engine will be out of the car, is it easier to fit headers/extractors to the engine before dropping into the car? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Na as long as its not an injected walky motor u can just use standard vl extractors. Even though the vl was 304 it's was still a 308 cam pattern. At least I'm 90% sure!

Vl v8 is same as 77 statesman so 308 extractors for that year statesman Will fit no worries.

the headers in the VL are very tight coming through the steering rack etc. drivers side sometimes comes as a 2 piece, flange up where it drops by sump for clearence and ease of service etc of gear box. Kingswood ones wouldnt fit down through the limited space. You need 308 headers but ones suited to the VL, or if you pick up Kingswood set you could use them to where the 4 meet, then custom job from there. dont buy 304 headers as stated above as the ports on the head have different spacing. hope that helps

^exactly spot on from my knowledge. But! Weren't vl 304 just a sleeved 308?? Heads and therefore extractors didn't change until injection came in hence why we call them "Vn heads".
