do watts make a difference? if so, in what way? because i see the higher the watts, the higher the price. and also. what's the difference between a 2way speaker and a 3 way

The higher the watts, the more power and how loud they go increases... so basically the highes wattage brandname ones you can afford... But take a look, and ask someone if it's not obviously written on the box when you're looking what the RMS wattage is, that's what you should technically go by 2 way just means there is one big cone for the bass, and another smaller speaker in side of that on top. 3 way means another tweeter, which usually sounds a lot better! Youve gotta be careful with wattage ratings if you see a 600watt speaker that is $50 then its a piece of **** and the rating is a lie, there are 2 rating of wattage RMS and PMPO, ignore anything that is rated in PMPO cause generally they rate them this way cause they are so **** To turn PMPO into RMS (aproximatly) divide it by 10 eg. 600watts PMPO = 60watts RMS However some RMS figures are doctored to look better you have to read the small print where it says nominal power, cause the RMS power can be written down as peak power which could be 300watt but that is only for a very short amount of time, nominal power is usually what the speaker can handle all day everyday Best thing to do isgoing to a place that will crank the speaker right up for you so u can hear it yourself, If they wont crank it right up then go somewhere else (hope what Ive written makes sense) Good luck

Usually in the shops they've got their speakers in a nice box and run them on a $1500 head unit hooked to a $1000 amp so they'll sound way different when you get them in your car. Still, have a listen you'll get the general idea Most manufacturers have the RMS rating on the side I know mine are 320 watt rated power and 80 or 85 WRMS My older 6x9's were 200watts peak and 60watts RMS. antoher thing to worry about is system power... some manufactures state the system power as 220w... well thats about 110w peak... each.... wich means the root mean square (RMS more commonly reffered to as) would be around 70watts a pop. thats going by the absolute law that RMS is aroun .707 of the peak voltage. however it all depends on what you intend of having as the finished product.. the speaker will only be as good as the signal you run through it.. a lot of poeple get a real good quality speaker and then decide to run a **** ass amp... then wonder why it shounds like crap or distorts... remember that an amp is only efficient up to about 70% of it's peak power then you srat getting distortion and the more it distorts the more heat it produces and therefore the amp will not produce good response, usually fom low frequencies. the point. if you intend on amping the speakers, i don't recomend that, spend money.. if you wanna run them off a head unit. power doesn't realy matter cause your headunit will overdrive before you speaker distorts. i have my deck running my rears and fromts and a JVC amp running my subs... if you have it set up right your speakers should be rinning little or no bass.. thats where you get distortion is a smaller diameter cone!.... all the best! cheers.

The sony amp would be a decent buy -- but I don't really like the sound of their speakers... pioneer and kenwood speakers seem to be some of the better sounded mid-high priced ones Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

The lower end of the JVC range is pretty good, i've got one that cost about $280 new (with a bit of haggling ) It's got everything you'd need only problem is that it only has a single set of preouts... Even though I don't like them personally, the pioneer ones are alright as well... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

the pioneer speakers are top speakers and that dose sound like a good price! dont go the sony speaker because there realy basic speakers and sound crap! sony put all there work into head units, amps and all over looks. sony head units are hard to go past, they have everything you need and look good, the $300 unit is a good buy! it has $299 on it but you will beable to talk'em down to $250 at JB! the amps are pretty basic, go for one with a well known name, and the more you pay the higher power you will have!! hope it helped!

Personal Opinions... 1. Don't use Sony speakers, especially Subs... they're crap. 2. Don't skimp on Cables... always run at least 8 Gauge power cable to your amp. Especially in a Commodore where its a big car and you may have say 4m of cable. If you run a thinner cable, the power in the cable drops by the time it gets to the amp, so you end up with a fluctuating power level into the Amp... not good. 3. Pioneer speakers are good quallity speaker FOR THE PRICE, and are backed up by good service & support. These days, your local servo will fix a set of Pioneer speakers... and when you consider they come as standard fitment to Falcons, they must be ok. 4. Always use a decent amp... if you go for a cheap amp like a Super Sound amp into your Alpine DDDrive Splits, you may as well use the stock front speakers. 5. If you're not an expert on Sub Boxes, buy an Aerpro UniBox... they come all set up, all you have to do is find your sub model on the porting guide, cut the port to the right length, bolt the sub in, power it up and your off. 6. Keep your Positive power fuse within 6" of the battery... 7. Keep all your ground leads as short as possible. These are just a few of my tips that i have learnt over the years....

Hey as for recommendations for amps. I would personally say stay away from the sony stuff. It really is bottom of the range type stuff. I personally own a Blaupunkt MPA4 and it happily powers my 10" sub bridged on two channels and my front 6.5" and rear 6x9s hooked up in parallel presenting a 2 ohm load on the other two channels quite happily. i paid $299 for this amp and it sounds like maybe sumfin you could consider. Another 1 you could consider is the Phoenix Gold QX 300.4. Or infact just about anything from the phoenix gold range. They make very high quality gear. Just a couple of alternatives to the common Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood type stuff
